Today, on the 15th of October, we commemorate the 180th anniversary of the great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche
He was a thinker who had got ahead of his time. Both German existentialists, French postmodernists, and Anglo-American analytical researchers of meta-ethics recognized a key role of Nietzsche for the philosophy of the 20th century. Nietzsche was and remains an iconic figure for Russian culture. Either art or the religious and philosophical thought of the Russian "Silver Age" is impossible to imagine without Nietzschean ideas. Nietzscheanism was both a challenge, a temptation, and a source of inspiration for the spiritual quest of the Russian people. The characters of Maxim Gorky's short stories possess the Nietzsche's proud will to live. Nietzsche's Zarathustra "preaches, rushing and groaning", on the pages of Vladimir Mayakovsky poem "Cloud in Trousers.
There is nothing odd that Friedrich Nietzsche remains an incredibly popular philosopher, and among RUDN students as well. Our Library colleagues have noticed that even non-philosopher students ask Nietzsche's writings for lending. The mysterious and majestic thought of his genius becomes the first and important step into the world of philosophical literature for many of his readers. We are always glad to provide our readers not only with Nietzsche own works, but with some serious research works too for better understanding of his amazing ideas. It is a work of Arthur Danto "Nietzsche as a Philosopher", for example, written with a great accuracy and clarity of analysis, and a book of the German writer Friedrich Junger "Nietzsche", that can serve as a guide to the depths of the Nietzsche multilevel thought. You can get acquainted with some articles about Nietzsche by RUDN philosophy researches digitally on the website of the scientific library.
We are also pleased to announce a Round table "Nietzscheanism and spiritual Culture of Russia" to be held on October 24 at 16:00 in the 6th hall of the RUDN Scientific Library. Among participants there are members of student scientific circles "Comparative Philosophical Russian Studies", "Ethics in World Culture”, and a special guest of the Round table Alexandra Andreevna Kosorukova, senior lecturer at the Department of Ethics of the RUDN Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, specialist in Nietzsche Philosophy, with the report "The Perception of Friedrich Nietzsche's ethics in Russian philosophy: Lev Shestov and Nikolai Berdyaev".
You are heartily welcome to participate in the Round table discussion!
