5 books that inspire and teach wisdom
RUDN University Philology Faculty student Khristina Eprintseva shares her impressions of five works that left a deep mark on her soul
1. Lucius Annaeus Seneca "Moral Letters to Lucilius"
Seneca, a Roman Stoic philosopher, being a mentor to Lucilius, shares his philosophical reflections and advice with him. Seneca's letters present a system of moral improvement of a person, based on the principles of stoicism, fortitude and liberation from passions. One of the central themes of the letters is the nature of wisdom and how to cultivate it. In my opinion, this work can help a modern person to gain wisdom and peace of mind

2. Lyubov Arkus "Beyond and Above. Meetings and Events"
... the author of the work is called Lyubov, and this says a lot at the beginning... The book by Lyubov Arkus, a Russian film scholar and director, is woven from memories of meetings with writers, critics and filmmakers. Each page of this book warms the heart with love, genuine sincerity and warmth, giving the reader wise life lessons

3. Vladimir Bogomolov “Ivan”
The story of a simple Soviet boy who ended up in the wrong place. Vanya is a little partisan during the Great Patriotic War. Having lost his family, he is forced to grow up quickly, going through trials that not everyone can handle

4. Victor Hugo "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
They say that Paris is the city of love, but Hugo's novel tells a tragic story. In this book, each character is tormented by unrequited love and unhappy in their own way. But is unrequited love worth such sacrifices? And can one person rule over another?

5. Mikhail Lermontov "Mtsyri"
"Mtsyri" is my favorite poem from my childhood! The description of the wonderful nature of the Caucasus will not leave even the most sophisticated reader indifferent. But fate plays a cruel joke on the young hero of the poem - having learned the taste of freedom and remembered his father's house, he finds himself on his deathbed
