Leo Tolstoy's power place
June 10, 1921 – 103 years ago The Tolstoy State Memorial Museum complex at Yasnaya Polyana («Sunlit Meadows») was established.
Yasnaya Polyana is a unique cultural object of the Tula region. The memories of the life and work of the great Russian writer have been preserved here since 1921.
The village first mention was in the XVII century when it belonged to George Kartsev, border troops military, and his relatives, until it was acquired by S.F. Volkonsky, Leo Tolstoy’s great grandfather in 1763. Lev Nikolaevich was born here on August 28 (September 9), 1828, spent his childhood and then returned and lived here for another 48 years after his marriage in 1862. His famous works "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina" were written here.

Nowadays Yasnaya Polyana is a large museum complex, including the estate itself, as well as its branches in Tula, Krapivna, Shchekino, Nikolo-Vyazemsky, Pokrovsky and Pirogovo. The architectural ensemble has been preserved in its original since 1910, the last year of the writer.
