Moscow was not built at once... Moscow silhouettes

The city, first mentioned in chronicles in 1147, in the XIII century became the center of the Moscow Principality, but only in the second half of the XV century – a capital of the unified Russian state.

 

Moscow is a dynamic megapolis today, where historical monuments and architectural masterpieces of different eras harmoniously coexist. The Moscow Kremlin, the Bolshoi Theater, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Saviour Tower, they are landmarks well-known all over the world… Some modern architectural objects such as Moscow City - the business center of the capital, the Garage Museum of Modern Art, the Mercury City Tower and more add modern grace to the city structure.

 

All this comes into the single architectural ensemble that makes the city architecture unique and highlights it from other megacities.

The architecture of the Moscow metro is unique in its splendor and variety. This is a real museum of art, where each station has its own style – from the Stalinist Empire to modern minimalism.

 

The engineering solutions of the Moscow bridges compliment the city landscape. These are elegant small bridges for pedestrians across the Yauza and the Drainage Canal, and an openwork muscular giant made of concrete with metro trains rushing along, and wide avenues encased in granite stretching over the surface of the Moskva River. The design of bridges is also different. Those are suspension bridges on chains, some bridges rest on powerful foundations, some others with arch spans, look like steel trace of a giant leap from one shore to another.

Apropos, there is an exhibition of "Russian Engineering School" in the co-working space of the Scientific library (main building), held by the 4th-year students of the Engineering Academy. It is dedicated to the Russian architects and designers of the XIX - XX centuries and their works actualization together with their understanding of technical aesthetics.
